Known for three of the best top four breweries in the East Bay, San Leandro is brewing up two more taprooms in the downtown area, becoming a true beer cluster City.
San Leandro evokes the sense of a safe small town, though there are 86,000 people here. It is steeped in tradition and holds its annual Cherry Festival in high esteem, as San Leandro used to be called the “Cherry City,” due to so much acreage dedicated to Cherry orchards.
San Leandro is dedicated to the arts, including public art. Hot news is the relocation of a burning man sculpture created by Marco Cochrane, “Truth is Beauty.” It will be installed, near the BART station in San Leandro’s new Westlake Urban Tech Campus in the autumn of 2016. San Leandro has two museums (one historical and the other Railway) and the San Leandro Performing Arts Center and Curtain Call Performing Arts, The Historic Bal Theatre and the San Leandro Players Theater Group.
